Nov 08, 2016 Here I wanna show u how to crack RD Services on Windows Server 2012 R2. As u know RD Services one of the popular service in Windows Server, But it requires a licensing service, This license is called Remote Desktop Services client access licenses, and it’s required some money to obtain RDS CALs, per device or per user basis.
Remote Desktop Services (RDS) in Windows Server 2012 is Microsoft’s VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) offering. RDS formerly known as Terminal Services (TS) provides session-based virtual desktops, virtual-machine based virtual desktops and applications to end users. To be able to use these features, you must install Remote Desktop Services in Windows Server 2012 or 2012 R2. So, in this post I will show steps to install Remote Desktop Services in Windows Server 2012.
Install Remote Desktop Services in Windows Server 2012
The diagram below shows the scenario for this post. The network consists of one domain controller and one RDS server.
Log on to RDS server (MBG-RDS01). Open Server Manager. Click Add Roles and Features.
Click Next on Before you begin page. Choose installation type as Remote Desktop Services installation. Click Next.
As you can see below there are two ways of installing RDS services in Server 2012. They are quick or standard. In quick deployment option, three of the required RDS services are installed on single server. The three services are, RD Session Host, RD Connection Broker and RD Web Access. Similarly, the quick installation also creates a collection and publishes some RemoteApp programs. Here, I will install quick deployment option. If you wish to separate each RDS components then you can choose standard deployment option. Choose Quick Start as Deployment Type and click Next.
Deployment Scenario can also be either virtual machine-based or session-based. Here, I will choose session-based. Click Next.
Under Server Selection page, the current server will be automatically added as shown below. Click Next.
Review the installation options. Check, Restart the destination server automatically if required option. Click Deploy.
The installation will now begin. The server will reboot automatically. After the reboot, log back in, you can see the installation has completed successfully. Click Close.
Now, let’s verify the installation. Open Server Manager. Click Remote Desktop Services on the left pane. You can see the RDS deployment Overview as shown below. As we can see, RD Web Access, RD Connection Broker and RD Session Host have been installed. If you want applications or desktop sessions to be accessed from the Internet then you have to install RD Gateway. Similarly, You must install RD Licensing to activate RDS server.
You can also view installed applications. Under Collections, click QuckSessionCollection which is just a collection named created by Quick Deployment installation option. As you can see, calculator, paint and wordpad applications have been published.

To access those applications, open web browser and type URL of RD Web Access server. Type username and password and log on the server as shown below. You can also customize the look of RD Web Access page.
You can view the published applications below. Double-click to open any application. I have double-clicked calculator.
Accept the certificate warning. The application will open as shown below.
So in this way you can install RDS in Windows Server 2012 using Quick Deployment option. You can now install certificates, publish required apps, publish session-based desktops, customize RD Web Access, and so on.

Almost 4 months have passed since the official release of Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2, so its time for system administrators to update their IT infrastructure for full support of those OS. In this article we will discuss KMS (Key Management Service) activation issues for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 on KMS server, roll out for the older Windows version.

In case when KMS server has been roll out already in attempting to activate the new OS (Win 8.1/ Win 2012 r2) on it such error will appear:
0xc004f015: The Software Licensing Service reported that the license is not installed.
SL_E_PRODUCT_SKU_NOT_INSTALLED
SL_E_PRODUCT_SKU_NOT_INSTALLED
This error is absolutely normal because the legacy KMS server version knows nothing about new OS versions from Microsoft and doesn’t recognize the new KMS client keys.
Microsoft company release special KB2885698 update for full support of Windows 8.1 and Windows 2012 R2 on KMS servers which are working under control of previous Windows versions. It is available at this service http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2885698.
KB 2885698 update is designed for the following OS with installed KMS activation server:
- Windows Vista SP 2
- Windows Server 2008 SP 2
- Windows 7 SP 1
- Windows Server 2008 R2 SP 1
- Windows 8
- Windows Server 2012
The order of KB2885698 installation and KMS server activation
- Using the link above download and install KB2885698 update on KMS server and restart server.Note. It is necessary to download update taking into account version and bitness of Windows which is used on KMS server.
- To get information about current license type use the following command:As can be seen in example above KMS key for Windows Server 2012 (VOLUME_KMS_2012_C channel) is used.
- Let’s delete the key with a help of the following command:
- With a help of the following command install KMS host key on KMS server (it is assumed that you have KMS key for Windows Server 2012 R2 which you got from VLSC – Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center Web URL).
- Activate Key on server:Note. If during KMS host activation an error with 0x8004FE92 code appeared, this most likely means is unable to connect with Microsoft Internet Activation Server . Check if this server/user has Internet access.
- On Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Software Licensing Service should be reset.
- Let`s check KMS key version that we use:Now it’s VOLUME_KMS_2012-R2 channel
After the update and the new key installation your KMS server will support client KMS activation for all Windows versions from Vista up to Win 8.1/ 2012 R2.

April 10, 2019Windows Server 2012 R2 will continue to have the same licensing model as Windows Server 2012, with two editions available in volume licensing: Standard edition and Datacenter edition. Editions are differentiated by virtualization rights only (two OSEs for Standard, and unlimited OSEs for Datacenter). A single license covers up to two physical processors.
Client Access Licenses (CALs) are required for each user or device accessed. The Windows Server 2012 related CALs provide entitlement to access and use Windows 2012 R2 functionality.
Both Standard and Datacenter editions provide the same set of features; the differentiator is the number of Virtual Operating System Environments (VOSE). A Standard edition license entitles up to two VOSEs on up to two processors (subject to the VOSE use rights outlined in the Product Terms document for Volume Licensing or End User License Agreement for other channels). A Datacenter edition license entitles an unlimited number of VOSEs on up to two processors.
There are a variety of new features in Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter and Standard editions. Here are just a few examples:
- Enterprise-class virtual machine density, performance, and mobility with best-in-class performance and scale for Microsoft workloads
- High-performance file-based storage on cost-effective, industry-standard hardware with inbox storage virtualization and tiering
- Highly available, in-box hybrid networking for bridging physical and virtual networks in a multi-tenant environment and across premises
- Protection and recovery of assets for all your workloads with simple and affordable disaster recovery options
- Flexible remote access to corporate resources from virtually anywhere and on any device while helping to protect corporate information
Windows Server Remote Desktop Licensing
Because there is feature parity between Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and Datacenter editions, your decision will be based on your virtualization strategy, as virtualization rights are the only differentiator between the editions. If your strategy calls for a highly virtualized environment, Datacenter edition will provide you with optimum flexibility because it allows for unlimited virtualization. This edition gives you the elasticity to add and move virtual OSEs across Datacenter licensed servers without needing to track the virtual OSE count on that server. If you don’t plan to have a highly virtualized environment, Standard edition is the right product for your needs. If you purchase Standard edition today but find you need to expand the virtualization capacity of your licensed server, you can do one of the following:
- Purchase additional Standard edition licenses and assign them to the same physical server, giving you the rights to run additional instances of Windows Server. The server must have the appropriate number of licenses assigned to it to ensure coverage of all of the virtual OSEs that are running at any given time.
- Purchase a Software Assurance Step-up license to Datacenter edition, changing the license to a higher edition that allows unlimited virtual OSEs. To use this benefit, your underlying license must have Software Assurance.
With the Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard edition licensing model, you can grow your virtualization environment by either buying a step-up license to Datacenter edition if you have Software Assurance, or by simply buying additional Standard edition licenses and assigning them to the same physical server. The server must have the appropriate number of licenses assigned to it to ensure coverage of all of the virtual OSEs that are running at any given time. For example, if you have a two-processor server and want to run a total of four VOSEs, you can purchase two Standard edition licenses and assign them to the same server. Additional examples are shown in the following table.
